Veterans' Affairs Minister Predrag Matic said on Sunday that there would never be a shortage of funds in the state budget for disabled war veterans, despite the economic crisis in the country.

"You gave a lot for Croatia and only those who were killed in the Homeland War gave more. The ministry I am in charge of, the present government and I am sure all future governments will look after you the best they can. I am extremely proud of you, athletes, and of your optimism. Your example shows us that obstacles and barriers exist only in our heads and not in our physical abilities," Matic said in his opening remarks at the 6th Croatian Wheelchair Basketball Cup in the northwestern city of Varazdin.

Matic expressed his satisfaction with the work of his ministry, saying that all planned projects had been or were being implemented. He announced financial support next year for the purchase of more wheelchairs specially designed for basketball in order to further promote the sport.
