The Kosovo parliament adopted at an emergency session on Thursday a resolution obliging the Kosovo government to establish constitutional order in the entire territory of the country.
The parliament called on the international community to support Kosovo institutions in establishing peace and order in Kosovo's entire territory, calling on all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, to maintain peace and make it possible to establish constitutional order and the rule of law.
All parliamentary parties supported the measures the Kosovo government adopted in light of the latest incidents on border crossings in the north of Kosovo.
The parliament asked the government to continue with efforts to take control of the border crossings.
Following an address by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, members of parliament supported the government's decisions, expressing opposition to restoring the situation as existed until July 26, as before that day a ban on imports from Serbia was not in force on the border crossings of Jarinje and Brnjak.
Thaci said his government was determined to put the two border crossings under its control.
The NATO-led peacekeeping forces in Kosovo, KFOR, have taken over control of the two border crossings in the predominantly Serb-populated northern Kosovo, KFOR said today.
The border crossing Jarinje on the Serbia-Kosovo border was set on fire on Wednesday evening by a group of youths with masked faces who had arrived from the direction of Kosovska Mitrovica.
The Serbian state broadcaster RTS said several dozen Serb youths came to the border crossing, asking the people who had gathered there to move away, after which they started destroying the border post and set it on fire.
Serbian President Boris Tadic called for an immediate end to the violence at Jarinje and for restoring order, saying that those who were causing violence were not defending either Serbian people or the Serbian state.
