Commenting on the announcement by Branimir Glavas that he would sell his war medals and military decorations, Croatian President President Ivo Josipovic said in a statement on Thursday Glavas "can give, sell, destroy or do what ever he wants with the medals as a physical sign of honor", stressing however that "the moral meaning of honor that the medals carry can be given and taken away by the President of the Republic".
Glavas, member of the Croatian parliament whom the Supreme court sentenced to eight years in prison for war crimes, said on Wednesday evening he would sell his war medals and military decorations to a Croatian emigrant from Australia who wishes to remain anonymous.
Glavas said he would sell his medals and decorations for EUR 15,000.
In response to inquiries if the decorations would be taken from Glavas after the verdict against him became final, the Office of the President said that "actions in the said case would be taken according to the law", stressing that "selling the medals would not prevent the enforcement of the law".
