President Ivo Josipovic said on Sunday he had agreed with Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor that the government should consider the initiative to publish the war veterans' register, and that this issue did not open a front between him and the PM.

"That's not a new front at all but the beginning of cooperation on something the entire Croatian public is waiting for, notably veterans," Josipovic said in Lukovdol in response to questions from the press as to whether he was opening a new front with the PM by insisting on the publication of the veterans register.

"I don't think that's a front. I talked with Mrs Kosor, she cares about the protection of personal data. Our agreement was that this initiative, which was forced by veterans, should be discussed by the government, to see which data would be available and which would not," said Josipovic.

The publication of the register was a topic of a recent meeting between Josipovic and his advisory council on war veterans. The media on Saturday carried a statement by Josipovic's advisor on war veterans, retired army brigadier Predrag Matic, that veterans wanted the register to be published and that it should be available on the Internet.

Kosor said recently she had nothing against the publication, but warned that one should first amend legislation given that the register contained personal data and that, as she was informed, every veteran should personally consent to their publication.
