Outgoing President Stjepan Mesić's security team will be guarding President-elect Ivo Josipovic until his inauguration on 18 February, according to an agreement reached by Josipovic and Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko on Monday.

The Police Directorate said the agreed security measures were in accordance with the regulation defining the counter-intelligence protection and security of people and buildings as well as with the position of the president-elect.

The media recently speculated that Josipovic was without police protection because he wanted to have a saying in the selection of his bodyguards, namely he wanted the same bodyguard who had protected the late Ivica Racan. The media also alleged that the Interior Ministry denied his request.
