The leadership of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) discussed the oil company INA only in principle, it did not go into details, HDZ vice-president and Deputy Parliament Speaker Ivan Jarnjak told reporters on Wednesday.
Jarnjak was commenting on the statement by former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec that he had conducted negotiations with INA's strategic partner, the Hungarian oil company MOL, in line with a framework set by the government and the HDZ.
Polancec gave the statement on Tuesday before a parliamentary commission investigating how MOL in 2009 acquired additional management rights in INA.
"As far as I can remember, the HDZ Presidency always discussed at its sessions all important political issues, and INA was a political issue. Those issues were discussed in principle, without going into details," Jarnjak told reporters ahead of a session of the parliament's presidency.
He stressed that the party leadership did not discuss in detail the amendment of the shareholders' agreement between the government and MOL.
"We only discussed whether it should be done or not. Further details were not discussed, either in the case of INA or any other situation," he said.
When asked if Polancec was "waffling now", Jarnjak said that he was not saying that, and that Polancec had probably acted in line with the government's decisions.
