Despite a 26 percent drop in revenues in 2009, the oil company INA is still the leading company in Croatia with last year's gross revenues of HRK 19.7 billion, according to a list of the 50 biggest Croatian companies published by the business weekly Lider earlier this week.
INA is followed by the Konzum retailer, which in 2009 earned total revenues in the amount of HRK 12.6 billion or 0.7 percent less than in 2008. The power supplier HEP is third and its revenues saw an annual growth of 7.5 percent to HRK 12.2 billion.
Zagrebacka Banka is ranked fourth with a total revenue of HRK 5.8 billion (-8.5 percent), followed by the telecommunications company HT with HRK 5.4 billion, down 19.2 percent from 2008.
Zagreb Holding, a company comprising utilities owned by the City of Zagreb, and T-Mobile Croatia reported revenues of HRK 4.5 billion each, and Privredna Banka Zagreb (PBZ) earned revenues in the amount of HRK 4.1 billion.
Among the top ten performers are also HEP - Proizvodnja, a subsidiary of the power supplier HEP, with HRK 3.9 billion, and Erste & Steiermaerkische Bank with HRK 3.7 billion.
The 50 biggest companies in Croatia last year earned HRK 159.7 billion in revenues and HRK 6.7 billion in profit.
Compared to 2008, this is a drop in revenues of 13.8 percent and a drop in profits of as much as 51 percent.
In 2009, 36 of the 50 biggest companies operated in the black, while in 2008, 41 of the 50 biggest companies earned a profit.
The biggest positive surprise was Uljanik Brodogradiliste, a shipyard which is part of Uljanik Grupa, which in 2009 saw the biggest increase in revenues among the 50 biggest companies, of 18.2 percent, with its profit going up by as much as 127 percent.
