The Croatian government decided on Wednesday to shift a date for the invitation of bids in the second round of privatisation of all six state-owned shipyards from 6 January to 15 February at the latest, and may extend a deadline for the submission of bids to 60 days.

During our talks with experts and with officials of the European Commissionwe agreed to continue negotiations on some issues in connection with theplanned privatisation of the shipyards, Economy Minister Djuro Popijac told agovernment session in Zagreb.

Therefore, the government has changed its previous decisions to publish itsinvitation for tenders on 6 January and postponed it for 15 February 2010 atthe latest.

Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said that the time frame for the submission ofbids might last up to 60 days.

The government also decided to cut by half the compensation for renewablesources which electricity consumers pay within their electricity bills.

In the last two and a half years, charges for renewables in electricitybills were HRK 0.89 per kilowatt hour, and according to the government'sdecision this is to be reduced to HRK 0.5.

Having in mind the current economic crisis in Croatia, it is necessary toadditionally lessen the pressure on electricity buyers, and this move willenable the economy and other end-users of electricity to feel some savings intheir bills, the economy minister said.
