The GONG nongovernmental election monitoring organisation reported on Sunday afternoon that voting at polling stations in Croatia was proceeding peacefully, in a democratic atmosphere, without incidents.

GONG said minor problems were recorded with the voting of national minorities in Croatia, mostly because polling committees were trying to persuade them that they can only vote for general slates. GONG also pointed out that there were not enough minority slates at some polling station.

GONG said that it has been notified of a small number of cases of breaches of the ban on electioneering, which include putting up election posters, sending text messages and putting flyers on car windshields.

The NGO recalled that the electioneering ban was in force until the closure of polling stations at 1900 hours on Sunday, calling on all political parties and candidates to refrain from all promotional activities.
