A Counsellor in the European External Action Service, Robert Cooperer, held talks with the President of the the Republika Srpska National Assembly, Igor Radojicic, in Brussels on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Cooper said the EU had no understanding for the holding of a referendum challenging the existence of the State Court and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced by the Bosnian Serb authorities.

"Counsellor Cooper said that the situation in the judiciary was a very important issue for European integration processes and that a standard monitoring procedure would have to be carried out in the next European integration cycle," the public relations office of the Republika Srpska National Assembly said in a statement.

The statement also said that at the talks it was stressed that all problems needed to be discussed in system institutions.

Cooper also informed Radojicic of the dissatisfaction in European circles with a number of minor and serious blockades across Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the statement, Radojicic voiced his concern with the situation in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the non-functioning of the state parliament.

The decision of the Bosnian Serb National Assembly to call the referendum challenging the existence of the State Court and the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor of Bosnia and Herzegovina went into force last week. At the same time Inzko, who is at the helm of the international administration in Bosnia, announced he would suspend the decision on the referendum. He also did not rule out the possibility of sanctioning Bosnian Serb officials.
