Croatia should be in the European Union according to all parameters, and it would not be good for Croatia, as a small country, to be left outside that big association, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Milanka Opacic said on Saturday.

She expressed confidence that a majority of the Croatians who will go to the polls for the 22 January referendum on the country's EU membership would vote "yes".

Asked by reporters to comment on today's anti-EU rally organised by several nonparliamentary parties and NGOs in Zagreb, Opacic, who was on a visit to the eastern town of Vukovar, said that "in all EU newcomers there have been a part of citizens against their country's admission" adding that "everyone is entitled to their own opinion".

Opacic said she was positive that a majority of the Croatians would vote for Croatia's EU membership at the referendum next Sunday.
