The International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), observed on 17 May, will be marked in Croatia ony Friday with the organisation of round table discussions, parties and other events in the three biggest cities: Zagreb, Split and Rijeka.

Croatia, which started marking this day in 2011 at the initiative of a few LGBT associations, is one of over 50 countries in the world that observe IDAHOBIT.

According to an anonymous online survey conducted among 93,000 LGBT persons by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), every second member of the LGBT community in EU member-states and in Croatia said they felt discriminated against in 2012.

May 17 was the day that homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990. IDAHOBIT was conceived in 2004 to commemorate the WHO’s decision to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders in 1990.
