First Deputy Prime Minister Radimir Cacic said during Question Time in Parliament on Wednesday that the Sisak oil refinery would again be operating at full capacity, and that the government had given guarantees that the Sisak-based manufacturer of plant protection products, Herbos, would not be wound up.

Labour Party MP Mladen Novak asked Cacic if the government would devote greater attention to seeking solutions for the survival of the metal and oil-processing industries.

Cacic said that one of the first towns the new government's officials had visited was Sisak, where they had discussed with trade unions, corporate executives and local government leaders possible solutions to the problems that were burdening the local economy.

"We will see to it that the Sisak refinery operates at full capacity this year, using state-of-the-art technologies," Cacic said.

He added that the government would also help the Sisak steel mill.
