The Appeals Chamber of the State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has upheld the judgement handed down by the Zagreb County Court against former member of the Croatian Parliament Branimir Glavas, sentencing him to eight years in prison for war crimes against Serb civilians committed in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek in the early 1990s, the court said on Tuesday.

The time Glavas has spent in custody will be credited towards his sentence. Glavas was held in Croatia from October 26 to December 2, 2006 and from April 18, 2007 to January 11, 2008, and in Sarajevo on May 14-15, 2009. He has been in custody in Sarajevo since September 2010 after the Trial Chamber of the State Court upheld the verdict by the Croatian court.

Glavas, who holds dual Croatian and Bosnian citizenship, fled to Bosnia and Herzegovina shortly before the trial court in Croatia announced its verdict against him. On August 24 this year the Croatian Ministry of Justice asked the Bosnian authorities to enforce the sentence against Glavas based on an agreement between the two countries.
