Ten more people arrested in Podravka case

An executive from the Podravka food company and nine directors from companies that cooperated with Podravka were arrested on Monday as part of an ongoing probe by the anti-corruption investigative agency USKOK.

The identities of the 10 persons arrested have not been made public.

Four former Podravka executives and another two businessmen have been incustody since the probe was launched three months ago into alleged financialwrongdoing.

Neither the police nor USKOK gave any further information about reasons fortoday's arrests.

According to the media, one of the arrested men is Nevio Prlog, a closefriend of former Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec, who stepped down whenthe Podravka scandal broke last autumn.

Prlog is the owner of several construction firms that did business withPodravka through direct deals.

Podravka spokeswoman Dijana Jendrasinkin declined to comment on the latestarrests, only saying that this Koprivnica-based food producer was operatingnormally.
