Snowstorms and freezing temperatures lasting for several days prompted the authorities in Sibenik-Knin County to declare a state of emergency in that southern Croatian county on Saturday.

The authorities asked the army to help in removing snowdrifts from county roads.

Drivers were cautioned against driving due to slippery roads.

Some islands off Sibenik were cut off by snowstorms.
