Slovenia's Prime Minister Borut Pahor has said that he will spare no effort to ensure the success of a regional conference due to be held on Saturday in his country.

Addressing the press on Thursday in Ljubljana, Pahor said he would travel to Brussels later in the day as part of preparations for the Western Balkan conference.

Pahor confirmed that he had been on a scheduled visit to Belgrade on Wednesday to meet with Serbian President Boris Tadic. He, however, declined to speak about the contents of his talks with Tadic.

Media speculate that Serbia made its attendance at the conference to be held in Brdo Pri Kranju conditional on the presentation of Kosovo under the label Kosovo/UNMIK in accordance with UN Security Resolution 1244 and not as an independent state.

Later on Thursday, Pahor is expected to hold talks with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, who has also been invited to the conference,

Pahor told the press today that joint attempts by Slovenia and Croatia to organise this conference were sincere.

Ahead of his trip to Brussels, he said that relations with the Western Balkans were also important for his country.

"We want peace, security and stability in the region and we would like to be co-responsible to the best of our ability," the Slovenian premier said.
