A protest rally against the signing of Croatia's European Union Accession Treaty called "Let's not give Croatia away" was held in Zagreb's main square on Thursday, organised by the Action for a Better Croatia party and a dozen non-parliamentary parties and associations.

Reporters estimate that 100-150 people rallied for the protest.

The protesters said the signing of the treaty, scheduled for Friday, was an act of national treason and called on citizens to vote against in a referendum on Croatia's EU accession.

"Only traitors take their people into a house on fire," said the president of the Action for a Better Croatia, retired general Zeljko Sacic, adding that the EU was disintegrating and that in its opinion, the Croatian Homeland War was a "conflict in the 1990s and a civil war."

The rally passed without incidents. The protesters carried the Croatian flag, signs against the EU and banners urging citizens not to vote for Croatia's accession.
