Croatian President Ivo Josipovic, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, Environment Minister Mihael Zmajlovic, Labour Minister Mirando Mrsic, Veterans' Affairs Minister Predrag Matic and Health Minister Rajko Ostojic on Saturday morning joined thousands of volunteers throughout Croatia taking part in the Green Cleanup, the biggest environmental campaign aimed at cleaning up wild waste disposal sites in Croatia.

"This campaign is very important. On the one hand it would be better if we did not need it at all and if waste was not being dumped at places where it does not belong. On the other hand, when the situation is already this bad, this symbolic gesture is not only symbolic, as some dumping sites will be cleaned and we will show our concern about the environment and the place we live in," said President Josipovic who joined the campaign in Zagreb.

PM Milanovic who was cleaning the wood together with his ministers in Zagreb's Gornja Dubrava neighbourhood, said he saw the campaign as the beginning of cleaning Zagreb from corruption, particularly in the city administration.

Wild dumping sites in some 150 cities and municipalities throughout Croatia will be cleaned during today's campaign.

The Green Cleanup - One Day for a Clean Environment campaign is held as part of the global movement "Let's Do It!" and the global campaign "World Cleanup 2013". So far, 96 countries have joined the "Let's Do It!" movement.
