The parliamentary Defence Committee on Wednesday unanimously endorsed a draft decision on increasing from 300 to 320 the Croatian army contingent in ISAF, NATO's peace mission in Afghanistan.
Defence Minister Branko Vukelic said the 20 instructors would train Afghan security forces and not take part in combat.
The augmenting of the Croatian contingent is part of the new allied strategy which asks NATO countries to send additional instructors to Afghanistan, Vukelic said, adding NATO especially appreciated the engagement of instructors so that Afghan security forces could be trained to act independently.
Committee member Ante Kotromanovic of the Social Democrats asked about the consolidation of Croatian troops, who are now in north and west Afghanistan as well as in the capital of Kabul.
Vukelic said Croatian troops were being reorganised and that they should be deployed in the north of the country and in Kabul.
