Molotov cocktails thrown at Croatian consulate in Duesseldorf

Two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Croatian Consulate-General in downtown Duesseldorf around noon on Wednesday, the staff were not injured, while the consul-general, Vjekoslav Krizanec, was hospitalised after inhaling smoke and soon released, the Croatian Foreign Ministry said.

The German police have arrested the attacker but have not revealed his identity yet, the ministry added.

The fire which broke out on the premises was quickly put out, causing minor damage.

The motive of the attack is unknown.

The German newspaper Rheinische Post said on its website that a man threw two Molotov cocktails at the consulate's entrance around noon. He was seen by a roofer on the other side of Cornelius Street. The roofer managed to stop the fleeing perpetrator and held him until police arrived.
