Former Croatian Intelligence Service (HIS) director Miroslav Tudjman was interviewed in Zagreb on Monday by Peter Robinson, a legal adviser to Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic who is on trial at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague.

"I have talked to a member of the Karadzic defence team under a subpoena today. I cannot discuss the content of the interview because I have no permission to do so. I can only say that in my opinion this interview will be of no use to the Karadzic defence," Tudjman told reporters.

Tudjman said that a representative of the Croatian government was present at the interview because confidential information was discussed, but added that he could not reveal his identity.

Tudjman said last week that the government had partly released him from the obligation to keep state secrets, allowing him to answer only a limited number of questions.

The ICTY in July issued a subpoena for Tudjman to talk to the Karadzic defence team, who think that he, as HIS director, knew of arms smuggling for Bosniaks during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war. Karadzic is charged with genocide and war crimes committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war.
