President Ivo Josipovic said on Thursday he had invited representatives of all parliamentary parties for a meeting in his office on Friday to discuss the stability of the country.
"The reason why I have invited the parties for a meeting is to discuss stability, because without a stable State enterprises cannot do business and Croatia cannot be a good and equal member of the EU," Josipovic told reporters at a reception for a delegation of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and recipients of the Golden Kuna business award.
Commenting on nearly daily protests in towns throughout the country, Josipovic said that people were protesting because they were dissatisfied.
"They are dissatisfied not because they enjoy marching down streets protesting, throwing eggs and carrying banners, but because they live hard, because they have no work, because they work without being paid, because they and their families are hungry," the President said.
He concluded by saying that resolution of those problems required stability, and that political and economic stability were interrelated.
