President Ivo Josipovic confirmed on Monday that Serbia's President Tomislav Nikolic had announced that he would attend the celebrations marking Croatia's accession to the European Union (EU) on July 1 and that the day of his first official visit was not that far off.

Cooperation in the search for missing persons from the war has intensified and improvements are being made in other areas, Josipovic said in an interview with Croatian Radio.

He added that "technical working meetings" between them were constantly occurring, as was the case at the Olympic Games or in the Vatican at the inauguration of Pope Francis.

President Josipovic said that new opportunities were opening up for Croatia with its accession to the EU as was evident in the number of investors from European and other countries around the globe that were coming to his office to enquire about transport and energy corridors.

Asked whether he, too, like Croatian National Bank Governor Boris Vujcic, believed that Croatia need not rush into the eurozone, Josipovic answered that the euro was Croatia's objective but that Croatia still did not meet the required conditions and that it was unlikely these would be met within the next three to five years.

He denied that any conflict existed between him and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, adding that they had different opinions on some matters and that the idea of a conflict between the two was simply media speculation.
