Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said on Mount Jahorina near Sarajevo on Friday he was confident the Croatian law invalidating war crimes indictments against Croatian citizens filed by Serbian judicial bodies would certainly "fall through" and that a Croatian-Serbian agreement on the prosecution of war crimes according to the perpetrator's place of residence could solve such issues much more easily.

"In my opinion, that law is unconstitutional and the Constitutional Court will take a position on it... What's most important is that the agreement I am proposing - and I have discussed this with our government, of course - prevents the politicisation of war crimes trials," Josipovic told Croatian reporters after a meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic and the Bosnian presidency.

Josipovic is convinced the perpetrators of war crimes against Croats who reside in Serbia can be prosecuted there more easily and that this will be better than trials in absentia.

"I think that's a common interest because we will avoid politicisation... and it will be easier to bring culprits to justice," he said.
