Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) leader Daniel Srb said on Wednesday that, if it proved to be true that former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader had received EUR 10 million in bribes to turn over management in the oil company INA to Hungary's MOL, it was a case of high treason which "has to be punished in a special way."

Speaking at a press conference, Srb said such loss of control over a strategic national company like INA was more harmful than losing a part of state territory.

He said the latest suspicions about Sanader made one wonder how his government made other nationally important decisions.

Srb labelled as legally questionable the government's decision to ask citizens during a referendum on European Union accession also about amendments to labour legislation and the conditions for holding future referendums, saying this would undermine the importance of the accession referendum.

The HSP is also not happy that EUR 15 million has been earmarked from the state budget to promote Croatia's EU accession, saying this is taxpayers' money, including those against accession.
