HDZ to run ten counties, SDP three

In 11 counties that held the election runoffs for prefects on Sunday, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) candidates won in five counties, Croatian People's Party (HNS) candidates were winners in two and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the regional Croatian Democratic Party of Slavonia and Baranja (HDSSB) and the regional Istrian Democratic Party won one county each, according to the results which the State Election Commission released on Sunday evening.

With the overall results for all 20 counties, nine of which got outright victors in the first round of vote on 19 May, the HDZ will have county prefects in 10 counties: Dubrovnik-Neretva, Virovitica-Podravina. Vukovar-Srijem, Slavonski Brod-Posavina, Lika-Senj, Sibenik-Knin, Zadar, Split-Dalmatia, Karlovac and Pozega-Slavonia.

The SDP will have three county prefects: Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Krapina-Zagorje and Sisak.

The HNS and the Croatian Peasant Party (HSS) follow with two county prefects each. Thus the HNS prefects will run Varazdin and Medjimurje Counties, an the HSS Zagreb County and Koprivnica-Krizevci County.

The HDSSB remains at the helm in Osijek-Baranja County, the IDS in Istria County, while a non-party candidate supported by the HNS, the Croatian Pensioners' Party (HSU) and a local party will be at the helm of Bjelovar-Bilogora County.
