A total of 80 members of parliament coming from the ruling majority on Friday rejected the motion of the opposition Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) for a vote of no confidence in Education and Sport Minister Zeljko Jovanovic, while 24 deputies from the HDZ and the regional HDSSB party voted in favour, with six abstentions from the Labour Party.
The motion was submitted by 33 HDZ MPs who described Jovanovic as being unworthy of ministerial office and criticised him for having undermined the dignity of the parliament and MPs through his verbal statements.
The government and deputies from the ruling coalition supported Jovanovic, and added that the verbal statements could not be a reason for anybody's replacement.
