Parliamentary deputies of the regional HDSSB party on Wednesday accused the leadership of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and its parliamentary group's head Andrija Hebrang of making the issuance of a passport for HDSSB founder Branimir Glavas conditional on the HDSSB's willingness to attend the ongoing parliamentary session when it comes to the vote on the discussed items so that the HDZ may secure a quorum.
In response to the accusations made by HDSSB MP Ivan Drmic, Hebrang announced a lawsuit and denied all accusations.
According to the HDSSB MPs, Glavas, who is serving a prison term for Osijek war crimes in a Mostar penitentiary, sent a request to the Croatian consulate in Mostar on 20 August for a new passport. Passports are usually issued within 30 days of the application, but Glavas is still without a new passport, his party colleagues said today in parliament.
Drmic told a news conference in the parliament today that he had held several conversations with Hebrang about a quorum since last Thursday.
According to Drmic, who said that the HDSSB was unwilling to attend the voting without other members of the Opposition, Hebrang contacted him again yesterday and when Drmic told him that the HDSSB would not come to secure a quorum, Hebrang retorted that if there were no HDSSB MPs for a quorum, the problem about Glavas's passport would not be solved.
Later today, Hebrang described those claims as ridiculous, stressing that he had no authority for the matter of anybody's passport.
He said that he would also file a lawsuit against Drmic over those lies, while Drmic said that he would report the entire case to the Office for National Security.
