The screening of the Swiss drama L'Héritier (The Heir) by Christian Karcher in the coastal city of Dubrovnik on Monday marked the start of Francophone Days, an international event promoting the French language and culture.

The programme of the event, organised by Alliance Francaise Dubrovnik, includes French-language workshops to be attended by primary and secondary school students and kindergarten children, as well as screenings of French-language films.

Apart from Dubrovnik, Francophone Days are also taking place in Zagreb, Osijek, Split, Koprivnica, Rijeka and Zadar.

The central event will be an exhibition of sculptures by Edgar Degas in Zagreb's Klovicevi Dvori gallery on March 15.

The promotion of Francophone values is organised every year by the French Embassy and other Francophone embassies in Zagreb, notably the embassies of Canada, Belgium and Switzerland, with the support of the Croatian Foreign and European Affairs Ministry, the French Embassy said on Monday.
