Protests of farmers, dissatisfied with the pace of payments of agriculture grants and with the government's plan to cut state aid for this sector, began throughout eastern and northern Croatia on Thursday, the leader of the protesting farmers, Stjepan Kunovec, told the media in the morning.

Protest rallies were staged alongside roads but demonstrators did not obstruct traffic.

The protest organiser, the Croatian Chamber of Agriculture, also insists on an urgent meeting with Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

Extremely cold weather on Thursday morning prevented the arrival of many tractors and farming machines at protest sites.
