The Dioki petrochemical company's supervisory board on Tuesday gave a go-ahead to a preliminary agreement on the sale of Adriaoil, a company from the Dioki Group, to the Turkish investor Caliskan, which is one of preconditions for the implementation of the government's guarantee of five million euros to that Turkish company.

The advance payment from Caliskan will be used as funds for paying several monthly salaries in arrears to workers of the Zagreb-based Dioki plant and the Dina Petrokemija plant on the island of Krk.

The Dioki supervisory board chairman Zdravko Rumenovic told the press that the payment of those overdue salaries could be expected by the end of the next week.

The preliminary contract should be now verified by lawyers for the Turkish group.

A representative of the workers said that tensions among the employees are rising as they are waiting for their salaries for a few months.

The last time they got a part their wage earned in February was on 27 April and they believe that there is no reason for new procrastination in the payment of their wages.

Disgruntled workers, who are facing seizures of salaries due to unpaid bills and loan installments, have announced a one-hour warning protest rally on the bridge connecting the mainland and the island of Krk on Thursday, 16 August.

They have said that they would give up the blockade of the bridge only if they were given their salaries.
