Croatia's President Ivo Josipovic on Thursday announced at a summit in Bratislava that he would meet officially with Serbia's President Tomislav Nikolic in October or November.

"I think that we will speak officially at a meeting in the autumn", Josipovic said, adding that this could be in October or November.

"And we will see each other before that in Zagreb", he told Croatian reporters during the 18th summit of central European heads of states.

President Tomislav Nikolic has been invited as have all the presidents of countries in the region, to celebrate Croatia's accession to the European Union and he has confirmed his arrival. There won't be any bilateral meeting during that occasion though.

Josipovic and Nikolic met in Bratislava but informally. "We just greeted each other and exchanged a word or two and there was no time for any separate meetings", Josipovic said.

He added that he thought it was particularly important to note that Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and Serbia's Tomislav Nikolic were seated at the same table in Bratislava and they will do so at the celebrations in Croatia too and that is a sign of some new wind, Josipovic added.

Participants in the Bratislava gathering discussed the European prospects of countries that still are not members of the European Union.

"All countries in central Europe wish to be in the EU and that's the strategic aim of every country in the region", President Josipovic said. "Croatia has been pointed out as a good and optimistic example".

According to Josipovic, the main idea expressed during the summit is that "Europe is the answer to the crisis". Everyone pointed out the dangers that this long crisis presents which is both financial and political, he said, adding that non-EU members looked to the EU as their future.

Joispovic believes that central European countries are aware of the historical reasons why the Union was created and are committed to the idea of enlargement.

"The European Union, European unity was created based on the idea of peace, tolerance and reconciliation and that is why in fact most discussions focussed on that dimension of the EU. We discussed enlargement and all countries are committed to that idea: there was also talk about Eastern Partnership which involves Ukraine and Moldova and naturally southeast Europe which encompasses countries in our region", Croatia's president said.

The two-day summit dedicated to seeking a strategy for Europe's recovery out of the crisis and how to boost the renewal of sustainable development and preventing similar economic and financial crises from occurring in the future ended on Thursday.

The recovery of the region must be conducted in the way that will enable people to enjoy the fruits of the recovered growth, Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic said at the end of Central European Summit in Bratislava.

We must not underestimate the deepening income polarisation of society. People must understand what governments do, the Slovak head of state said at a news conference after the 18th summit of six presidents from central Europe.

The Bratislava gathering focused on seeking suitable strategies to exit from the crisis.
