Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday that in agreement with President Ivo Josipovic, he had initiated a procedure aimed at a systematic withdrawal of Croatian troops from the U.N. peacekeeping force in the demilitarized Golan Heights zone, as their safety cannot be guaranteed following reports by some media in the world that Croatia was allegedly selling weapons to Syrian rebels.

Milanovic said this at the start of the session of his cabinet, adding that Croatian troops would be withdrawn soon, in accordance with the procedure, and that he had informed Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann of this decision, given that Austrian troops were also taking part in this mission.

Croatia is taking part in the UNDOF mission with 97 troops and apart from them and Austrians, also taking part in the mission are soldiers from India, Japan and the Philippines.
