The Zagreb District Court prosecution council upheld an indictment from the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) filed against former Croatian minister of defense Berislav Roncevic and his assistant Ivo Bacic

The indictment cannot be appealed.

The prosecution council president, Ivan Turudic, said the council had sustained all of USKOK's arguments, which he added contained sufficient reasonable doubt to warrant a trial.

Turudic said he would forward the case file to court president Mirjana Rigljan, who is expected to select the judges who will try Roncevic and Bacic.

USKOK deputy head Ksenija Pavic said she backed the indictment at today's closed-door session of the prosecution council with 390 documents, 29 witness statements, and experts findings.

Roncevic and Bacic are accused of abuse of office in a 2004 purchase of military trucks in which more than HRK 10.2 million of government money was embezzled.

USKOK (Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crimes) claims that Roncevic and Bacic bought 39 trucks from the Eurokamion company for HRK 34.4 million, HRK 10.2 million more than the lowest price offered by the Man Importer company.

Roncevic reiterated after today's session that he still believed in the Croatian judiciary and that he would prove "USKOK's groundless accusations at the trial". He said he would show the public evidence of his innocence.
