Greece is looking forward to Croatia's forthcoming full membership of the European Union, and its admission to the bloc will overcome the fatigue from the bloc's enlargement, Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos said in Zagreb on Friday.

Croatia is rewarded for its hard work, the visiting Greek minister said at a news conference after his talks with his Croatian counterpart Vesna Pusic.

Pusic said that Croatia and Greece were a part of the same region, Southeast Europe, and that they shared many joint interests as well as responsibilities.

"We believe that we have potential to contribute to the stabilisation and progress of the region that has European prospects," the Croatian foreign and European affairs minister told the news conference.

She added that the southeast of Europe would be high on the agenda of the EU in the first half of 2014 when Greece is to take over the EU rotating presidency.

Avramopoulos said that one of the topics of the Greek EU presidency would be to enhance the European prospects of southeast Europe.

Pusic and Avramopoulos also discussed bilateral relations, including cultural cooperation and cooperation in education, the Adriatic-Ionian transport infrastructure, shipbuilding industry and a potential Trans-Adriatic gas pipeline (TAP).

This February, Greece, Albania and Italy gave a greenlight to the construction of 800-kilometre-long TAP which would facilitate the delivery of gas supplies from the Caspian region to Europe.

Pusic said that Croatia was "definitely very interested in that project".
