Former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader knows that he and his former party, the ruling HDZ, are under investigation in the Fimi Media corruption case and is ready for the start of a trial tomorrow for taking kickbacks from the Hypo bank, one of his attorneys, Goran Suic, told press on Thursday.
On Friday, Sanader will be arraigned at the Zagreb County Court about the war profiteering charge by the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) of taking HRK 3.6 million in kickbacks for a loan which the Austrian bank gave Croatia.
The defence team visited Sanader in prison today to prepare him for tomorrow's hearing, Suic said, adding that the team and Sanader were ready for the trial. Asked if Sanader was in good shape, he said: "You'll see tomorrow."
Suic said Sanader knew that he and his former party were under investigation, but that they did not discuss it. He would not say what Sanader was accused of in the latest case.
Suic said Sanader's family would not be in court tomorrow.
