An anti-government protest rally was held in streets leading to St. Mark's Square in Zagreb, given that the police have blocked access to the square to prevent the protesters from rallying outside the government building.
The protestors gathered demanding the government's resignation. The protest rally was organised by the Alliance for Change via the online social network Facebook, and a score of demonstrators, who responded to the call, were stopped by the police at the accesses to the square where government offices are located.
According to estimates, several hundred people are protesting in peace, demanding of the government to step down, the nationalisation of banks owned by foreigners, a change in the monetary system, and salary growth. They are also against higher loan rates, new taxes, the role of bureaucrats and the redistribution of capital.
One of the organisers of the rally, activist Ivan Pernar, was arrested after jumping over a police barricade together with another protester. Prior to the incident, Pernar addressed the protesters saying that the time had come to show resistance and that this was the duty of all of us, adding that as always, the people would prevail.
Pernar said this was not the end of protesting activities, but only the beginning. He stressed this government was not legitimate as it came to power with the help of stolen money and by manipulating the people.
