The Osijek County Court's investigating judge on Tuesday set a 24-hour detention for Djuro Brodarac, Vlado Milankovic and Drago Bosnjak, suspected of war crimes against civilians in Sisak in 1991 and 1992.

Brodarac, 67, Milankovic, 49, and Bosnjak, 53, were arrested yesterday after the prosecutorial authorities charged Brodarac and Milankovic with command responsibility for war crimes and Bosnjak with an individual crime.

In the next 24 hours, the county office of the Chief State Prosecutor should file motions for an investigation and custody.

The Osijek court's spokesman Miroslav Rozac told reporters that during a hearing which lasted a few hours before the investigating judge earlier on Tuesday, the suspects had denied charges.

According to Rozac, the three men are suspected of war crimes perpetrated against civilians, most of whom were of Serb descent. They are held responsible for the death of 31 people and for the unlawful detention of 38 civilians.

The investigation into war crimes in the area of Sisak has been in the jurisdiction of the Osijek County Prosecutor's Office since September 2010. A decision to that effect was made by Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic.
