The Slovenian Constitutional Court on Tuesday approved the Slovenian-Croatian border arbitration agreement, ruling that it is in accordance with the Slovenian Constitution.

After months of consideration, the court handed down a decision as requested by the Slovenian government. This decision will pave the way for ratifying the agreement in the Slovenian parliament. The Croatian parliament has already ratified it.

The border arbitration agreement was signed by Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and her Slovenian counterpart Borut Pahor in Stockholm last November, with mediation from then EU president Sweden. The deal has paved the way for resolving one of the most contentious issues between Croatia and Slovenia which was the main obstacle to Croatia's accession negotiations with the European Union throughout 2009.
