The Social Democratic Party (SDP) youth forum in Istria County on Tuesday confirmed its decision not to support Damir Kajin as a candidate for Istria County Prefect at local elections this spring.

According to a press release issued by the presidency of the SDP youth forum, SDP youth activists would like to see an SDP member as the future head of Istria County.

"We are aware that the decision has been made at a higher level and that we cannot alter it, but we remain free to express our own position," the SDP youth forum said.

This past weekend local web portals reported that at its recent meeting the SDP youth forum unanimously decided not to support Kajin's candidacy despite the fact that a few days before the SDP expressed its backing to Kajin, a long-standing Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) parliamentarian who was expelled from the party following his harsh criticism of the IDS leadership and his announcement that he would run for Istria County Prefect as an independent candidate.

According to the web portals, SDP youth activists are in favour of backing a candidate from the SDP ranks. They criticised the SDP presidency for failing to ask SDP members in Istria about their opinion on Kajin's candidacy prior to giving its support to Kajin.

According to today's press release, the SDP youth activists in Istria say that their ideals and political visions are above Kajin and the IDS leader and the current Istrian County prefect Ivan Jakovcic.
