Serbia's government on Sunday adopted the draft legislation raising the number of ministries from 17 to 18 in the reshuffled cabinet, as a result of the proposed split of the current ministry of finance and economy into two departments.

The draft legislation and nominees for ministers in the reshuffled government proposed by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) led by Aleksandar Vucic and the Socialist Party led by Ivica Dacic will be on the agenda of the parliament that will convene on Monday for an urgent meeting.

The nomination of 29-year-old Lazar Krstic, a U.S.-educated McKinsey consultant, as the new finance minister has attracted the most media attention regarding the topic of changes in the Serbian government.

Yale graduate Krstic has already announced painful cutbacks and austerity measures in the state budget promising that palpable results of such policy could be soon expected.
