Registered unemployment rate in January 19.8 pct

The registered unemployment rate in Croatia in January was 19.8 per cent, up 1.1 percentage points from December, the State Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.

Year on year, unemployment was up 0.2 percentage points.

The last time the unemployment rate was higher than this past January was in April 2003, when it was 20.4 per cent and 345,300 people were registered with the Employment Service.

The lowest unemployment rate in the last ten years was reported in August 2008, when it stood at 12.3 per cent and 219,300 people were registered with the Employment Service.

A total of 334,351 people were registered with the Employment Service at the end of this past January, up six per cent on the month but down 0.01 per cent on the year.
