Polling stations throughout Croatia closed at 1900 hours on Sunday after voters decided on the country's bid to join the European Union. Because of time difference, the last polling station, one in Los Angeles, will be closed at 0400 hours on Monday (Central European Time).

The State Election Commission will start to release incomplete results on its website as of 2000 hours, with updates every ten minutes. It will announce preliminary results at a press conference scheduled for 2200 hours.

Slightly over 4.5 million citizens were entitled to vote. At least 50% plus one vote is required for the yes vote to succeed and if so, Croatia will become a full member of the European Union on July 1, 2013.
