Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor has said that the law on fiscal responsibility, which came into force on 1 January, brings great novelties, adding that she expected more responsibility and more personal responsibility at all levels and stressing that she will personally insist on the implementation of the law.
During Sunday's visit to the National Protection and Rescue Directorate (DUZS), reporters asked the prime minister about the implementation of the law on fiscal responsibility and if she would be strict towards those who are spending more than the allowed, Kosor said "absolutely yes".
One of the novelties of the law is that it introduces personal responsibility, Kosor said, adding that she could not say that the spending of budgetary money so far had been inadequate.
The PM stressed the law envisaged some exceptions when certain expenses cannot be foreseen, in case of natural disasters or catastrophes.
Asked about her expectations of the election campaign, Kosor said we entered the election year, adding that a lot has to be done and that time should not be wasted on campaigning.
"I expect it to be tough unfortunately, because judging by announcements from some parties, it would be an illusion to expect anything else," Kosor said. "However, as far as we and our coalition partners are concerned, we will continue to be committed to work. There is a lot of work to be done to make citizens of Croatia happy. The implementation of the economic recovery programme and the completion of Croatia's EU entry talks, as well as a fierce fight against corruption, must stay above anything personal, particularly above the narrow party interest. I will personally behave that way," Kosor said.
