Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi on Tuesday commended the success of the European Union's regional Danube river strategy in the first half of Hungary's six-month EU presidency, and assessed as dangerous a postponement of Croatia's EU integration and the delayed entry of Romania and Bulgaria into the Schengen Area, the Hungarian news agency MTI said.

Addressing a parliamentary committee, Martonyi said the Danube strategy had become a model for Europe, as several countries expressed a wish to adopt it and it could be applied by countries outside of the Danube basin as well.

He expects the final draft of the strategy to be approved in June.

Speaking of Croatia, he said that if the EU accession negotiations were not completed in June, this would harm both European integration and enlargement.

A postponement of several months could pose a very serious risk to enlargement, which would bring into question the credibility of integration, he said.
