Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Jadranka Kosor said on Friday that "a political party is strong not just because its leadership is strong but because its membership is strong."
Addressing a reception for the press, Kosor said that the HDZ presidency and other bodies would soon agree on intra-party elections and the entire process would take two to three months culminating with an election convention.
Kosor recalled that at the party's convention last September she had announced the strengthening of the democratic processes in the HDZ.
On the night of the 4 December election, the HDZ began preparing for the next local election and for elections for members of the European Parliament, she said.
Kosor said that the finalisation of Croatia's European Union accession negotiations was an achievement made by the HDZ, adding that her party would do its best to ensure that the EU membership referendum, scheduled for 22 January, was successful with a high turnout.
She thanked the attending reporters for cooperation, adding that she would personally see to it that it was even better in the future.
