The president of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Jadranka Kosor, said in the eastern Croatian town of Virovitica on Saturday that the Opposition believed it would win the elections and then close the fight against corruption so that investigators would not knock on their door.
"It is not all the same who will lead Croatia on 1 July 2013 when we join the European Union, because the HDZ is a member of the European People's Party, the biggest political family in the European Parliament, it is important that we be the one to set a direction for using EUR 3.5 billion of the budget we received owing to the fact that the HDZ led the government which concluded the negotiations with the block, while others were putting spokes in our wheels on a daily basis," Kosor said at an HDZ election rally in Constituency No. 4.
"I am confident that we shall continue to work for Croatia with persistence and dedication, even after 4 December," Kosor said, adding that in its election platform the HDZ was returning to the roots, namely to what is best for Croatia.
Presenting the slate for Constituency No. 4, Kosor said Vladimir Seks was candidate no. 1 on the slate because the HDZ wants to continue to see to Croatia's strategic interest.
