Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko said in Dubrovnik on Wednesday that Croatia was not an accidental state, commenting on a statement by Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic.

Speaking to the press, Karamarko said "the accidental prime minister of an accidental government had no right to say something like that because Croatia is not an accidental state."

Visiting drought-hit counties yesterday, Milanovic said "we're evidently all left to chance" and that "a state left to chance is an accidental state."

"He should look in the eyes of the parents of all those who died for Croatia," said Karamarko, who was in Dubrovnik to attend a panel on the day of remembrance for the victims of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes.

Karamarko said in this regard that despite resolutions from the Croatian and European parliaments, some crimes were being disputed, watered down and justified, and that he did not see why some victims of totalitarian systems should be put on the back burner.
