Justice Minister Orsat Miljenic said on Friday he absolutely supported the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) initiative to adopt amendments to the Constitution in order to eliminate the statute of limitations for politically-motivated crimes, which is currently being discussed by the parliamentary Committee on the Constitution.

This is the parliament's and not the government's initiative and we must not allow anyone who had killed in the name of a regime to enjoy the benefits of the statute of limitations," the minister said at the ceremony marking the completion of the IPA 2008 project aimed at supporting the criminal procedure reform.

Miljenic underlined this initiative had nothing to do with the EU, saying that the purpose of the initiative was not to have politically motivated crimes fall under the statute of limitations.

Reporters wanted to know if that had anything to do with the Perkovic case, but the minister said that this case was about one man whom the German judiciary suspected of having committed a crime in Germany, adding that amendments to the constitution were aimed at revoking the statute of limitations for all perpetrators.
